but first...

Lately, I have been saying this A LOT. This work week was CRAZY. We have been short staffed for the past couple of months and coping with this has been more than tough.

 But it was also emotional.

On Wednesday, we all went through the work day as normal. We were all pulling together and the events of the end of the day were... unexpected. While we were finishing up, one of our team members was let go. YUP... they were asked to hand in their keys. She promptly handed in her keys and left. Nothing was said to the rest of the team members.

I was so shocked...

You see... I have become pretty close to this coworker. She has been the person I could talk to whenever I get frustrated with work or life happenings.

...and her dismissal also has brought our office into further chaos. Work stress has been off the charts. BAHHHH!!!

To top it all off, the pregnant coworker that I mentioned in my last post got promoted a week or two ago and it was her last day yesterday. YUP. One more person that we are lacking within the office. Another person for me to miss terribly!

EMOTIONAL!

What have I been doing to make me feel better?

Taking selfies and sending them to the two friends that I mentioned above!

I am going to keep taking selfies and harassing them with it. They will NEVER forget me :)

While I am doing that, read this article by Charisma and I hope you guys enjoy your weekend!

What is in the water?

Yesterday, I had the day off. Well... not really. I had a jury duty summons but I was "on call". While I was running my errands and getting stuff done, I received a picture text from a friend. This picture text displayed her 1 year old son in his crib. On the crib, an eviction notice was posted with the due date of the new baby on it. Say what! I flipped. I was so excited! I know she has been wanting to get pregnant again and it finally happened.

As the day progressed, I realized that there HAS to be something in the water at work. Remember when I told you about my baby nightmare dream? Not only are friends outside of work getting pregnant, but I have had one women give birth, 2 (NOW 3) women who announced that they were pregnant within the last 3 months. This is crazy. I now refuse to eat or drink anything at work.

I kid.

I kid.

I am so excited for these babies! Oh yeah!

And now to distract myself from all these babies, I will open my Kindle and read! This past week has been good for my reading challenge. I have added a few books to my list! I know I have not updated recently (I mean my last reading post was more than a month ago...) but I have been trying to read.

If you look through the list, check out the "star rating" that I gave them on Goodreads. As I mentioned in my last post,

Anything with:
4+ stars means I LOVED the book.
3 stars means I wouldn't recommend the book but didn't hate it. I could at least read the whole thing.
2 stars means I finished it but it was a struggle. Would definitely not recommend it.
1 star means I hated it and was not able to finish it.

Now, a few of the books below have 3+ stars. I do not just hand out 5 stars.

Drawn by Lilliana Anderson is one of the books that I rated 5 stars. Guys, this book... I don't even know what to say about it. It is intense. You see the characters and you realize the obsession behind their actions. You realize that it is wrong. But you want them to continue. It reminds me of Fifty Shades of Grey without the BDSM. I finished this book within a few hours. I could not put it down. I never really give book reviews because I know I am horrible at giving them. All I know is that I could not put this book down. It played with my emotions. I could feel the heat in my cheeks whenever someone did something embarrassing or someone was heartbroken. It's a book that I would definitely recommend!

Pick it up! It's free on Amazon. <==== I made the link really long so you would not have any problems clicking to get your copy of the book!

Lack toast and tolerant

Just for fun...
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers
:)

This post was supposed to be written yesterday. I had the itch to write it all day yesterday but every time I sat in front of my laptop to type, I lost the urge to put my thoughts into words.
Womp
Womp
Womp.

Why does that happen? It's annoying.

Last year, Memorial Day weekend was such an adventure. It was special and I constantly think of that weekend. I was hoping that this year, Colon and I would do something similar.

We didn't end up going on a trip but the weekend was still fun. I didn't plan a trip because I had volunteering on Saturday and I also didn't realize it was Memorial Day weekend until last Thursday (oops).

Colon was grumpy and cold on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. In all honesty, I was pretty distant, cold, and grumpy, too. It has something to do with my monthly friend... or should I call it my biweekly friend. (Yes... If you don't like hearing about my period problems, then skip to here...)

I have never had a period that I could track. It comes when it comes and sometimes it skips a month. Sometimes I get it twice or thrice a month. Yes. You read that right. I hate it. The past few months, I have noticed that I get a very very light spotty period (too much info? I told you you could skip this section...) two weeks before I get my volcano-ish period... (too much again? too late to skip now!). A couple days before this  volcano-ish period, my mood swings start. I get grumpy and argumentative. I don't want someone touching me. No hugs. Nothing.

So, I was grumpy... and I think that made Colon grumpy. During out grumpy time on Sunday, I decided to just lay out in the backyard and read. It was nice to get away and relax under the sun. The sky was so blue and just gorgeous.

Via

On Monday, the cramp fest was so bad. BUT, Colon wasn't so grumpy and we were just better. It was nice to spend time with my love.

I cannot get over the pop top stations that they have all over the restaurant

We went to lunch at Rudy's barbeque and could not stop laughing at these grammar boo-boos. Go check out that link. You will crack up, too!

The rest of the day was spent in laziness together. He ended up playing with his guitars and video games. I spent time getting ready for today's jury duty summons.

Via
Yup. You read that right. It was my first jury duty summons and I was nervous.

I mean... what am I supposed to wear?
Oh and come ask me questions on spring.me!

I received the post card about 3 weeks ago and did the survey online. You are supposed to call the number on the postcard the business day before to find out if you are  supposed to fulfill the summons at 8:30am. Welp... I called and I was on standby. This means that I had to call back today at 10:30am to find out if I needed to report at 12:30pm. Welp... It is now almost 2 and I was released from my jury duty obligation.

So... I got another day off! I have, so far, spent the day grocery shopping and getting household stuff done. OH and I am using my crock pot for the first time. POT ROAST BABY!

I am so excited!

Since the entry is getting long, I will end this post.

I leave you with this Twitter post from George RR Martin:

Grouchy

Thank God it's Friday.

I feel like I start most of my Friday's post with some variation of that sentence. I am actually surprised at how quickly the weekend went by. Having my interview (again... more details to come when I feel the time is right to divulge)/ day off yesterday helped the time fly by.

I was quite grouchy today and I have no idea why. I woke up in a slightly sour mood and events at work kept my mood headed in the rotten direction. I tried. I really did try to pull myself out of it. I don't know if the post-interview mentality is kicking BUT whenever something frustrating or stressful happened I would mentally tell myself that it will not be too long until I move on. Sad but true. I feel guilty. And yet. I don't. Work really is falling apart!

So, here I am. Drinking a beer. Excited to read a bit from my Kindle.

What has caught my eye this week?

+ Charisma's post on the pressures that friends and family tend to put on married couples. I totally agree and definitely think it could pertain to unmarried couples that have been together for  awhile.

+ I need to buy these fast-drying-nail-polish solutions!

Happy Friday y'all!

Productive day off...

This week has been crazy. I ended up going back to work on Tuesday even though my body wasn't 100% better. I loved the day off on Monday (even if I was feeling like crap) BUT I was so bored. I never thought I would say this. I missed going to work!

So, when I woke up and still felt sick on Tuesday, I pushed through it and went to work. The past two days have been LONG slow days at work. Clients have been grouchy lately and my patience for my work place has been waning. I am becoming stressed and unhappy. But, we'll get into that another time.

After work on Tuesday, I searched and searched for a jacket. Something professional that would match the millions of skirts that I have in my closet. It took me 2 hours... but I found it!

Via

Yesterday, after work, I got home and looked over my resume, printed it out and put it into my portfolio. I then researched common behavioral questions and questions that I could ask at the end of an interview.  **If you haven't figured it out yet, I was preparing for an interview!

I was so nervous and it helped that Colon asked me to go to his soccer game. It gave me a chance to focus on something else and to not freak out.

Yes.
That was me.
Taking a picture of myself to send to my mom and sisters to ask their advice.
So yeah. I went to an interview today. I was full of nerves ALL DAY. I made myself leave the house 2 hours early and drive by the location of the interview. I stopped at Target because I wanted to get a bag. Something to occupy my time and smooth down the butterflies in my stomach. I found a Starbucks close to the location and hunkered down for the next 1.5 hours.

I read.
I sipped on a yummy cafe vanilla frap.
I looked over the questions and answers that I prepared.
I took selfies.

Via
I opted for a bun!

I occupied my time.

The interview went well.
Now it's just a wait!
Cross your fingers!

For love and justice...

Wow... Lats night, I was all set and ready to start work on Monday. My body had other plans. I woke up feeling like crap.

I had to call in this morning. Staying in bed is no fun people. Sleep. Sleep. Sleep. Water. Water. Water. That has been my slow day.

To make time go faster, I have been catching up on Youtube, blog posts, AND....

watching SAILOR MOON!

Via

I used to LOVE this show. My sisters and I would even create home videos/ summer plays where we would take an episode and recreate it. I had no idea that they stopped airing the show in the states. I just knew I couldn't find them everywhere. Well, a month or two ago Colon sent me a link stating that they would start airing them in the States again. I didn't believe it until I saw another article that was published on Friday.

I have watched the 4 episodes that were released today. Thanks to this whole being sick thing!

Hope everyone is enjoying their Monday!

Recognition

Yesterday's post was horribly long.
I am so sorry.
It's surprising that I forgot to mention some great things that happened this weekend.

Two of the most important things (apart from Colon coming home!)

1. Saturday, my company hosted an event for the workers within the company to get together and do some team building. We played games and listened to some higher-ups talk about the state of our market. It was good because we realized how close our team really is (remember what I said about our team in yesterday's post?) It was cool because my team got together and elected me to receive a vision award on Saturday. I had no idea and am so grateful to win this award! It bolstered my morale and made me want to work harder!

Via

2. The fun didn't stop there. When I got home from the rally, I checked the mail and got a cool package from my cousin. She sent me makeup gear with a cool card that has a donkey on the front! Yup. We have a special relationship!
The wrapping paper was cute, too!

Ahhh... Saturday was awesome! :)

So much to say!

Hello everyone!

Happy Sunday!

I hope last week went by quickly and the weekend was amazing for you. These past few days have been a roller-coaster... not a bad one. They were just eventful and full of errands and things for me to take care of.

It was awesome to get emails from you guys letting me know you were introverts like me! As I received these emails, my spirits started to lift. I have always (especially during the schooling years) considered myself "weird" and an "outsider" for liking to have "me-time" most of the time. I don't feel so left out anymore and I kind of feel accepted after all those emails from you fellow introverts.

Also, the birthday emails and messages made me feel so special! I thought this birthday would be sad and depressing since my family would be in their own towns throughout the US and Colon would be in Miami spending time with his family celebrating his mother's birthday and awaiting the birth of his niece. It wasn't too bad.

Via
Throughout the last week...

+  I made sure to spend time by myself AND spend time with friends. I picked up my first EVER crock pot! I am so excited to use this bad boy!

If you have any crock pot recipes send them my way, PLEASE!

+ Work has been crazy busy. Sometimes I feel as if the office that I work in is falling apart. I remember when we were a unit working together. Now, it's crazy town and it is going down the tube. I am sad to say that I can see everyone lose morale as the days progress and we are losing workers day by day. It's sad to see.

Via
+ I was surprised by the letter I received from my little sister. The last time I wrote about my letter writing, I mentioned that my sister Christina wrote me. Well, a few days before my birthday, my sister Alicia wrote me the longest letter. I love it! Do you see how creative and artsy she is? She drew and designed the picture on the letter! I have been working on a response to send back :)

+ Colon's niece was born May 13th. The day before mine. It was so sweet because his mother took the time to text me pictures and let me know what was going on since I could not be there. I foresee Colon missing my birthday for all my future birthdays to spend time with that little cutie. No lie. I bet it'll happen!

Via
+ On that same day (THE DAY BEFORE MY BIRTHDAY), I did a tiny little DIY. You see, I have this obsession with make up. Come on guys, you have seen my lipstick obsession.  Well, since I have a few colors that I used to use but have not used in a while, I decided to take four and melt them down into a mixture. I used a tiny cleaned-out Altoid tin as my lip gloss container. It came out super cute and the color is awesome! I was surprised at how easy it was! Try this out if you have some bum lipsticks that you are not using!

+ Celebrating my birthday was amazing.
My mom... she made me feel like a princess. I love her to death and even though I did not have Colon or any of my family here. She made me feel as if I wasn't forgotten. The flowers were beautiful. The strawberries were yummy. AMAZING!

My friends... I am so thankful for making such great friends out here in Arizona! Such a change from last year where I did not have a friend I would consider celebrating my birthday with. Thank You. Thank You. Happy birthday to me.

+ Colon came home last night. We were both so tired, we passed out right when we got home. Such a romantic homecoming! (sarcasm...)

We are both so tired now and will probably be passing out after we catch up on Game of Thrones!

Night y'all!

XO

My birthday was amazing.
It really was.
Waking to texts and Facebook comments galore.
Calls from loved ones.
SURPRISE flowers from my mom received at work. (seen above)
Happy hour drinking Mr. Pineapple at Santan Brewery with a few lovely friends.
I felt so special!

I thought it would fizzle away today...
but it didn't.
My sweet mommy had the best box of chocolate covered strawberries from Shari's berries sent to work for my "26th year and 1 day birthday.

Are you an Introvert?

I am soooo copying this post title from Mrs. Teacher. She posted a "quiz" to see if you are an introvert. I usually will describe myself as one, but am I really?

Let's see...

1. I prefer one-on-one conversations to group activities. TRUE
2. I often prefer to express myself in writing. TRUE
3. I enjoy solitude. TRUE
4. I seem to care less than my peers about wealth, fame, and status. TRUE
5. I dislike small talk, but I enjoy talking in depth about topics that matter to me. TRUE
6. People tell me I'm a good listener. TRUE
7. I'm not a big risk-taker. TRUE
8. I enjoy work that allows me to dive in with few interruptions. TRUE
9. I like to celebrate birthdays on a small scale, with only one or two close friends or family members. TRUE
10. People describe me as "soft-spoken" or "mellow". TRUE
11. I prefer not to show or discuss my work with others until it is finished. TRUE
12. I dislike conflict. TRUE
13. I do my best work on my own. TRUE
14. I tend to think before I speak. TRUE
15. I feel drained after being out and about, even if I've enjoyed myself. TRUE
16. I often let calls go through to voice mail. TRUE
17. If I had to choose, I'd prefer a weekend with nothing to do to one with too many things scheduled.
TRUE
18. I don't enjoy multitasking. FALSE
19. I can concentrate easily. FALSE
20. In classroom situations, I prefer lectures to seminars. TRUE

So... 2/20 were False.
This means that I may be an introvert!
What are you? Are you an introvert like me?
Answer these and let me know :)

Lourdes here.
I bet you were wondering where I've been.
It's OK if you weren't.
I know I have been MIA from this blog for a while.
A lot has been happening lately.

The last time I updated was last weekend. A week ago today. Colon and I spent a lovely weekend together. I had Saturday free and we spent the day picking up Colon's new speakers, amp, and guitar. Yup. He got a new one. We even went to The Music Store to pick up some equipment.

It felt great to hear him play the guitar! It has been so long since I have heard him play and I forgot how much talent he has.

Welp. He flew to Miami on Wednesday. It was my day off and I woke early to take him to the airport. He left to spend time with his mother on her birthday (which was Wednesday), Mother's day(which is tomorrow), and to be there when his niece is born.

The only sucky thing about it is that MY birthday lands between all those dates. Oh well.

I have been having fun here... It's nice to have the house to myself. Plus work has been keeping my busy!

What have I been doing?

=> Reveling in my letter writing glory. My sister wrote me back! I am loving this! It feels great to open up my mailbox and see an envelope addressed to me.

=> Playing the playlist from Charisma's Cinco de Mayo post. Love Selena!

=> I have been craving the Corona cupcakes with tequila frosting that Charisma (she popped up in this post again!) posted.

Via
=> Since Colon left AND my birthday is soon, I decided to make myself a cake that I would like... which means that I could make myself a yellow cake. You see, Colon will not be here to complain that the cake is not chocolate. So, I made myself the Corpus Christi cake...and it is yummy! (inspiration from here)

=> Eating. A LOT. The day that Colon left, I made it a priority to go to the grocery store. I have been making my meals and bringing my lunch to work. Yup. I cannot stop eating. Not to mention that Colon took me to BJ's for dinner the night before he left. I pigged out while enjoying a beer! Oh yeah!

Via
=> Freaking out that it snowed in Colorado. In May. IN MAY! That is crazy. I had no idea it could snow this late in the year! CRAZY!

=> I took the "Which Big Bang Theory character are you?" quiz and I ended up being Sheldon... yup... the person I was avoiding...

Soft Kitty
Warm kitty...

=> I am in season 7 of How I Met Your Mother. I cannot wait to make it to the end! So addicted!

Anyways... this post is getting long so I think I'll quit for now!

Love you guys!

A Recap...

I have been lazy with my posts. I know. So sorry. Things have been happening this (these past few) week(s) and my blogging became last on my list. What has been happening this week?

* My boss' last day was yesterday. It was so sad and made me realize that things can change in an instant.

* Colon and I celebrated our 7 Year Anniversary on Wednesday! It's crazy to think we have been together for so long. [ 6, 5.5, 5, 4.5, 43.5, relationship scrapbook]

* I filled up my gas tank for the first time since I got my car. 335 miles people. I was averaging 30.5 miles to the gallon! freaking awesome!

Via

* One of the customers at work owns a company called Carbon Pens. When I found out about the company, I decided to buy a few of the pens for Christmas 2013 presents and I loved them. Well, the company just came out with a new pen and I was surprised when said customer came in and brought one in for me. It was such a nice gesture and it made my day. I have been using the new pen, the Stealth 3.0, for my letter/card writing revival and it is awesome. Guys, seriously check out his pens! You will love them!

Via

* I finally replaced my Kindle and I love it! Guys, I have been stalking the Amazon website for a while and when I was ready to purchase my new Kindle, I saw that they were having a Mother's day sale on the Kindles. Check it out people!

Via
Welp... I am going to have fun this weekend!

Lots of love people...

Awards are fun...

Via

This past weekend was awesome. I wish I could say that Colon and I went out and spent the weekend out of the house.

We didn't.

We totally spent our free time at home and vegged out. The only time we went out was for volunteering (Colon stayed home while I left the house) and the Rawhide Craft Beer fest. When we first arrived at Rawhide, I got excited. I realized that it was made to look like a Wild West town and that intrigued me. Since Colon was with me, we spent the time trying beers and hanging out with one of his friends... BUT I vowed (to myself) that I would revisit this Old West town and explore the shopping (I really want some cowboy boots!... or is it cowgirl?) and the reenactments!

What kind of beers did I fall in love with during this festival? The Sonoran White Chocolate Ale and the Vanilla Porter. So yummy!

What else made my weekend awesome? An email from Vianney that made me smile. Welp... she nominated me for the Liebster Award and made my weekend even better! I started following her blog a few months ago and several of her posts have caught my attention and pulled at my heart strings. I am glad I stumbled upon her blog!

Anyways... back to the Liebster award. I have been nominated for blogger awards a few times but it still makes my day when I get nominated. The last time I was nominated for the Liebster award, I got to answer a few questions. I highly suggest you go back and (re)read my responses to those questions!

What are the rules for the Leibster award?
You must...
* link back to the person that nominated you.
*answer the 10 questions given to you by the nominee before you.
*choose 10 bloggers to nominate for the award and they must have a small following.
* create 10 questions for your nominees.
*go to their blogs and let them know you nominated them.
*not nominate the blogger that nominated you.

Vianney asked some awesome questions!

1. What's the meaning behind your blog name?

When I first started posting on the blog, my only real direction was getting out of the rut that was my life. I was self conscious and unhappy.  Colon and I were in a low point in our relationship and I was stressed over school. I needed a reminder of who I was and how amazing I could be. The blog helped me remember to love and trust myself. Love was key. Love of myself. Love of Colon. Love of my family. This blog was a back to basics for me!

2. Pick one: sweet or salty?

SWEET! Honestly, would you rather a bowl of salt or a bowl of sugar? :)

3. If you could pick one person to be stranded on an island with, who would it be and why?

COLON! He is fun to hang out with! PLUS we could procreate and populate the island!

4. What did you last dream about (that you can remember)?

The baby dream. I still can't shake it!

5. Who would you pick to be your celebrity bff?

I really cannot think of someone at the moment. I have been racking my brain for an answer and no one sticks out... someone selfless and a role model.

6. If you had a reality show, what would it be about?

It would be about my day to day work life- "The Office" style! I swear I work in the weirdest and funniest office!

7. What's one thing that's on your bucket list?

Visit the moon. I hope they start to do this before I die!

8. Can you quote an entire movie? If so, which one?

Yes. The Home Alone movies. I am so obsessed with them! I watch them EVERY holiday season and can watch them over and over and over and over again!

9. What is a habit that you can't seem to break?

Picking the skin on my fingers. Such a bad habit but I cannot stop... any suggestions?

10. Which Sex and the City character do you associate with?
Charlotte! her reactions to everything just reminds me (and Colon) of my own reactions!

I am going to break the rules and will nominate you... and you... and you. I ask that you answer the questions that I pose and just email me or comment here so that i can check out your answers! :)

    My questions to you?

    1. If there was a movie about your life, what celebrity would you choose to play your?
    2. What is your favorite season and why?
    3. What do you break the budget for?
    4. How many siblings do you have? Are you all close?
    5. Are you an introvert or an extrovert? Does it bother you?
