What do they have in common?

You'll see...

Thought I would post in the spirit of Halloween!

Thanks to my boyfriend for finding this gem for me!

Mischief Managed

Halloween is tomorrow. I have been wanting to listen to something Halloween-y but relaxing. So...

I started listening to songs from the Harry Potter soundtrack.

Fun, right? Now I have the urge to go and watch the movies!... and to eat the treats I made yesterday.
1. Pumpkin pie
2. Rice Krispy treats
I also have been reading some fun articles
and have stumbled upon some fun(ny) things lately.
Colon sent me a turtle meme.
He also sent me a funny Harry Potter gif
It would be cool to have a microscope on hand all of the time!
I could have told you this (without a study!)
I never would have thought that swaddling was so bad...
It's OK...send the wine over here!
I love my Kindle AND paperback books.

Halloween...Schmalloween...

I never realized how bad I was at decorating for Halloween until I was given the task to do so by Colon.

I SUCK at it!

Like...really...

I just want Halloween to come and go and Christmas to come!

That is what I have been thinking all day! You see, I had today off and took full advantage of it. Yesterday was an amazing day at work. Everyone was cheerful and everything seemed to be going my way. It's crazy that it was a Monday. Monday's are NEVER like that!

It was so good that I went on a cleaning rampage when I got home. Believe me... That's good! It means that I was in the mood to clean.

I was ready to go this morning. I tried making myself a coffee-smoothie-slushy thing and I made such a mess. So I abandoned that task, packed my  bag, and hit the road.

I first went to the bank to make a small deposit (hello budgeting!).

I then went to the mall to pick up a few things. I have already started my Christmas shopping and am trying to get odds and ends here and there. I WILL NOT put my shopping off until the last minute this year!

SO, I continued on my adventure. I went to another bank to make a small payment towards a credit card and then headed to the Dollar tree to look for cheap Halloween decor. I told you I hate Halloween...so why am I going to spend so much on the decor? I found a couple of things and also managed to get a bag of Peach-O's before I want on my way.

Wal Mart and grocery shopping was my next stop. I grabbed a couple of bags of candy for the kiddos (said as if I was an adult..). I picked up ingredients for pumpkin pie, Rice Krispy treats and other things we needed for the house.

Word of advice... don't shop while hungry!

The last stop of my trip was the library to drop off books. I didn't pick any up because I still had books at home that are due soon. But it felt good to return a book.

I was surprised that I got home by 1pm. I got so much done and the day was just beginning. I made my pumpkin pie and also made the rice krispy treats. They are DELICIOUS! While I waited for my treats to finish, I worked on wrapping the Christmas gifts that I bought.

I CANNOT WAIT UNTIL CHRISTMAS!

Now... let me go and get myself mentally prepared for working out with Colon. Maybe the workout will give me ideas for Halloween decorations!

Getting lost...

Yesterday was a productive day. The best part was the fact that I finished an amazing book. My library card is being put to good use. Every time I go to the library, I check out a thousand (exaggeration) books and something inside of me just wants to spend the rest of my life reading.

I wish I I could do that. Get lost in the world that is created within the book.

Get lost is what I did with two of the last three books I read. They were all historical fiction but they were each set in different time periods. Each of the books had an appeal. The only one that I had trouble finishing was The Gilded Lily by Deborah Swift. The characters did not appeal to me. The story was boring (atleast I thought it was). I was ready to move on to my next book once I hit the last chapter.

My Lord Wicked- Cheryl Bolen
The Gilded Lily- Deborah Swift
The Sister Queens - Sophie Perinot

I would definitely recommend the other two books, though. I got lost in them and was unable to put them down!

I am going through books like they were toilet paper. But I am so happy that I have the chance to read and enjoy the stories! I only hope that everyone else is enjoying their reading time, too!

Hope you week is starting off amazingly!

I cannot wait...

I have been waiting for this weekend for so long and now that it is here, I have no idea what to do with myself.

I worked/ volunteered early this morning and was relieved to come home. Colon and I had plans to go to the gym after volunteering. So, when I came home I quickly changed in anticipation for our workout. We get into the car and arrive at the gym. Colon goes and reaches for his badge and... he left it at home.

Needless to say, we did not work out today. We came home and did our own thing. He played his video games and I caught up on blogreading, finished a book, did some household chores and worked on a couple of Christmas presents that I have been knitting.

Overall, today was productive.

I just cannot wait until Christmas. Random, but true, statement. Cannot wait. Five more days until I can start playing Christmas music in my house. If only it would get cold here!

Before you go...

slowest week ever

When is this week going to end?

Slowest.... week... ever!

Today creeped by slower than a snails pace. I am really hating this week. Can you tell?

Anyways... Tomorrow is payday people! I am so excited! I am one of those people that have an Excel spreadsheet with all of my expenses/ bills/ payments. Today, I was able to go and set up all my bill payments! I also divied up the rest of my check towards savings, Christmas savings, groceries, and all of the "extra" fun things I want to buy.

I am excited to see my Christmas savings increasing and have already started to create a spreadsheet with all of the people I am getting something for. I cannot wait until Christmas.

Now, I am going to work on programming practice before bed.

I cannot wait until this work week ends! Tomorrow's Friday y'all!

Interesting day...

Gosh. Today was an interesting day.

*I arrived at work to see that we had an unwelcome visitor. You see, we get audited every month to make sure we are following procedure. This monthly audit is random. meaning, we have NO IDEA when they will come. Well, today was the day and it was stressful in the office.

*Because of said audit, my boss was stressed out and crabby. he was on everyone's butt and was micromanaging like a hawk. So annoying.

* I had my annual "women's" exam today. So, I left work early for my appointment. Even though I get these every year, I still get uncomfortable. It's so weird to have someone touch your boobs and insert things up your vajayjay. Awkward!

*Colon sent the following meme to me:

My day got better though. I picked up Taco Bell (yummy!) after my appointment and am currently watching Colon play his new WiiU. At the end of Sunday's post, I briefly mentioned that Colon got a WiiU. He has been staying up and playing on it every chance he gets. It's awesome!

Do you know what else was interesting?

*Stars and Butterflies

It's not Friday yet? What?

First day back at work and I wasn't looking forward to work. I was looking forward to socializing with coworkers but actual "work"...ehhh, I could just skip the "work" part.

Yesterday was fairly productive. I got a lot done and even squeezed reading time in!

I hate the feeling when you are waiting at a doctor's office or for your turn at a salon and you realize that you forgot the book you were reading. It happens to me often and I always end up starting a kindle book while I wait since
a) I always have my Kindle with me and
b) I hate to waste valuable reading time.

That's what happened to me last week. I had started reading a library book (hello... time crunch!) and brought it to work so that I could be sure to read during my lunch break. Well, lo and behold, I get home from work that night and realized that I did not have my book. I left it in the office. What did I do? I just started another book during my wait! I have finished both of those books (they were amazing) and they are the reason for this post. I get to add 3 books to my 2013 reading list.

The Sweetest Kiss- Marie Higgins
The Mistress of Trevelyan- Jennifer St. Giles
The Secret Keeper- Sandra Byrd

I have been on a historical fiction/ historical romance kick and am loving each and every book I pick up. All three of these books are worth reading and I would highly recommend them. Just be warned. They are addictive and it will be hard to put them down!

So, go pick these books up and read them. I will even leave you with a playlist to listen to while you reading.

Pride and prejudice by Lourdes Echagarruga on Grooveshark

Yes. This is the soundtrack from Pride and Prejudice. Perfect for reading time!

Feel the burn...

I am dying people (exaggeration!)

My body is SOOOO sore. You see, remember how yesterday I mentioned I was going to the gym with Colon? Well, we went. He insisted on it and I could not find it in my heart to say no. He looked so excited about it.

For our entire relationship, I have been the lazy-when-it-comes-to-athletics one. I HATE going to the gym and HATE doing physical activity. I would much rather read and spend my time relaxing. But Colon is the opposite. He plays soccer and volleyball and goes to the gym regularly.

So, I went.

...and it wasn't that bad. He taught me the routine he does. It seemed doable when he was explaining it but, of course, it was more difficult than I thought. Isn't that how exercising works? It's easy to say "I can do that!".

I have to admit. I had fun. It was fun spending time with Colon and I felt great (tired, but great) afterwards.

I was so sore this morning.

But I still managed to get up before my alarm and get dressed immediately. I tried to ignore my sore limbs. I mean, I was so excited to go walk/ hike a trail with a friend. I got my Camelback filled with ice (because I HATE drinking warm water!), packed my bag and was on my way to South Mountain

I had an amazing time. We did the following:

Mormon Trail > National Trail > Fat Man's Pass > National Trail > Natural Tunnel > National Trail > Mormon Trail

Oh. I knew I was out of shape when we started but I seemed to adjust after .2 miles. By the end of the hike, there were less frequent stops for rest. We were pros.

Guys. The hike was amazing. I intended to take lots and lots of pictures but that did not happen. The view of Phoenix as we ascended the mountain was amazing. We could see planes taking off and landing at the airport. Just amazing!

1. Mormon trail
2. The view as we ascended.
3. People think they are funny.
4. Cactus is huge!
5. My trying to get through Fat Man's pass.
6. The Natural Tunnel
7. The Natural Tunnel, again. I loved the shadows in this picture
8. Baby cactus
9. My friend is an awesome photographer!

The hike was so much fun! We had great conversations under the beautiful dessert sky. It was so clear! We also got some "exercise" in.

My body legs are screaming at me now. They are so sore. I could hardly get back into the car after the hike. While sitting in the car, I felt faint and got car sick. That is how I knew we needed to eat. So, we made our way to Lee's Sandwiches. Oh. My. God. So yummy!

Once I got home, I decided to relax. I sat here for hours working on Codecademy and other things.

Now, I will leave you for the night. I have to go watch Colon set up his new WiiU.

Hope your weekend was just as amazing as mine has been!

XO

Humming random songs

Thank God for lazy Saturdays.

We woke up late and lazied around for hours.

We watched our Gators "play". What is up with the SEC this week?

I did a little bit of cleaning up and tried to make the house presentable. Something to make me feel better after that game.

Here I am typing up this post while humming these three songs to myself. Who knew that these songs would be so catchy. All three of these songs were "so-so" until I realized that I hum them ALL THE TIME at work.

In my head 10/19/2013 by Lourdes Echagarruga on Grooveshark

I have also spent the last ten minutes trying to figure out how to make this scroll box thingy so I can post links to articles that I thought were worth reading.

How does it look? I worked hard on this and am going to start catching up on my Codecademy lessons!

Anyways... Colon is dragging me to the gym soon. Wish me luck!

to start off your weekend...

The weekend officially starts in...

10 hours

and I cannot wait. So, while I am at work anticipating the weekend, I decided to leave you all with some interesting links that I have stumbled upon the last couple of days.

[be warned...many of the links are for the nerds at heart!]

"This speaks to me on a personal level". Yes. ANother one of Colon's clever messages.
Pictures of turtles will instantly make me smile!
This makes me sad. Save the turtles!
I never noticed some of these things.
How cute!

Cute, right?

Anyways... I have managed to set up a hiking trip for this weekend. I am so excited and am looking forward to hiking in the cooler weather! Oh YEAH!

Hope you all have a great Friday!

...and weekend!

Star crossed... friends...?

Is it weird that I saw the title of yesterday's post on Blogger and immediately a)thought of this commercial and b)proceeded to say "Hump day" in the camel's tone of voice?

It's not even Wednesday anymore and I keep repeating it. That's right. It's Thursday. Almost Friday! Thank you Jesus (in the Melissa Gorga voice... just imagine me doing the sign of the cross).

This week has been crawling by and I am ready for the weekend. Time to relax and enjoy the beautiful weather that we have been having here in Arizona. Now I just have to make some plans!

My mood has been improving lately. It helps that I talked to my best friend via telephone. He lives on the other side of the country and works crazy hours. We both are "hermits" and have a hard time keeping in touch with people (including each other) but when we talk it is like nothing has changed. We are able to catch up and connect like we talk every day. It's amazing. During our last conversation, we started talking about our habit of turning people away when we are unhappy. We "ignore" people... we screen calls...we just push people away because we don't want them to worry. It was easy for me to talk to him about it since I know he is the same way. A weight lifted off my shoulder after talking to him. I suddenly felt ten times better.

...and here I am. Pouring my heart out about something random. That's what this blog is supposed to be, right? My thoughts? Life happenings? My interests? Randomness?

Yup. That's what it is supposed to be.

Love you all!

XO

Hump day!

It is so easy to be happy these days.
Things seem to be falling into place!

*I got my nails painted red on Saturday and I am loving the gel manicures!
*My coworker made me the "Spencer Special" coffee on Saturday. Regular brew coffee with hot chocolate and 2 vanilla creamers added! YUMMY!

Via

*I got to play with the new $100 bills that have been placed into circulation! They do not seem real!

Via

*Reading has been a priority lately! Such a stress reliever!

Via

* I decided to try out the e.l.f. tinted moisturizers. I really like them! Perfect for those days that you don't feel like doing the full makeup routine!

Via

*Tweet sessions with bloggy friends have been a regular occurrence lately and I LOVE it!
*I finally caught up on Revenge! I am loving it!
*Does anyone remember One Tree Hill? I NEVER saw it when it played when I was younger. So... I have been watching it on Netflix!

So much more has been happening.
This is just a check in!
I cannot believe it is already the end of hump day!
Cannot wait for the weekend.

Love you all to death!

A Lourdes Sunday...

There's nothing like a relaxing Sunday.
 No work to worry about.
No stress.

Just Lourdes time.

The weather is nice. Not too hot. I am definitely enjoying the semi-sweater weather. I can drive around with my windows down and not be too upset that my AC isn't working.

This morning was a dream. Waking up late and not rushing to get ready for the day. I had big plans. I picked up a friend and we went thrift store shopping. I found a skirt (that I have already hemmed) for work and a couple of books to add to my growing book collection! We had lunch at In-N-Out and then headed to the library. I whipped out my library card and brought home 4 books to read.

The library was a breath of fresh air. Something much needed. Peaceful. Quiet. A safe-haven.

Once home, I decided to catch up on news and put together a list of articles that I have found interesting the past two weeks. You see, I have finally given into the Flipboard app. Friends at work have been urging me to get it and now that I have it, I am loving it. I can finally keep up with news and new findings!

Here's what I have been oohing and aahing over...

Something that I know fellow Floridians would love!
I wish I worked for NASA! Let me travel through space and collect diamonds! How cool is this?
I am loving these old school pictures from the Civil War and France!
I hate bees but this is sad! AND this is scary!
I knew peanut butter had to be good for something other than sandwiches! GO GATORS!
Let's make sure to keep this contained!
I may have the Sourpuss gene!
I HATE spiders but this is interesting!
I don't think I can take the heat!

Did any of these articles catch your attention? They were cool, right?

I think I am going to keep this Flipboard app! It makes it easier for me to keep up with the happenings of the world...
while I am lying in bed...
in the morning...
trying to decide if I am going to call into work.
Just kidding!

So yeah, my Sunday has been amazing. Now I get to end this post by proudly saying I have added 3 more books to my list. This post is long already so I will not review the books. I will just say that I enjoyed all three of them and am looking into more books from the authors. (that means, I recommend the books!)

Forget Me Not - Jade Goodmore
Texas Hold Him - Lisa Cooke
The Measure of Katie Calloway - Serena B. Miller

I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

Optimism

via

Sometimes life seems so hard to live. You need things to remind you of the good of this world. I have been walking around like a zombie the last couple of weeks. Things just looked so unappealing. Life didn't seem good. I was just so pessimistic.

Then I received something unexpected in the mail the other day. My sister sent me a letter. It was short and sweet. But it reminded me of how loved I am. I have so much to live for and nothing to lose.

I need to start being optimistic. I need to stop letting my thoughts and the few bad things drag me down. I need to let people love me. Most importantly, I need to love myself.

It helps that I am slowly developing friendships and close relationships with those I see everyday!

This little blog also helps. Seeing the relationships that I am slowly developing with fellow bloggers (AKA new friends). I love you guys and want to say thank you!

Monotonous

Is anyone out there?

Are you still reading?

It has been weeks since I have updated and I am sorry for that. I have just been really stressed lately. My life lately has been lacking fun and relaxation. I have just been working, reading, sleeping, trying to keep eating.  I don't have much to entertain you with...

but I do have a couple of things for you to check out!

Who doesn't love Mean Girls?

I think I am going to do this for one of my next blog posts!

Oh THIS recipe has my mouth watering. SO yummy!

PostSecret does it again!

This study is kind of cool! Makes me want to have a baby.

How do you feel about this? People are making such a stink about it.

We got our hands on the new bill earlier today and it is awesome!

I am glad to be back. I may need some more time away but it feels good to catch up on blog reading and typing up posts!

Take care y'all!
