Are you a Liebster?

So... guess what happened this week.

This lovely lady nominated me for a bloggy award!

Oh yeah!

It's called the Liebster Award.

Basically it gives us bloggers the chance to meet new people, make friends, and find new blogs to become obsessed with.

Here are the
Rules:
1. Link back to the person who nominated you.
2. Answer the 10 questions they have created.
3. Nominate 10 fellow favorite bloggers and let them know you have nominated them.
4. Create 10 fantastic questions for your nominees.

SO, I am excited to answer the questions...Here we go ya'll!

1) If you could be an animal, which animal would you be (and why)?
Come on.
This is easy
I would TOTALLY be a turtle. They are my favorite animals. They are so cute and just so active. Just so you know, I love turtles so much that I have my own pet turtle. His name is Norton and he is like a child to me! So cute!

PS... Turtles really aren't slow.

2) Thinking back over your life, what was your best/favorite/most awesome day?

The day my dad and I started talking/ texting/ emailing/ messaging again. Hands down!
I love you dad!

3) What were you like in high school?

I was an introvert that reveled in the fact that I had overprotective parents. How awesome is it to have an excuse for a personality that was not very popular in high school? I mean, everyone wanted to go out and party. Hang out all the time. It was not cool to WANT to stay home and read...or do arts and crafts... or spend time with the family.

I was lucky!

4) What is the kindest thing anyone has ever done for you?

I cannot even sort through the kind gestures and pick one. There are just so many kind things that have been done! The world is an amazing place. That is what keeps running through my head.

5) What is your greatest accomplishment?

I will have to come back to this question. I have done so much and will have to chose one thing to label as my "greatest" accomplishment!

6) Do you like your name? Why or why not?

. To be honest. I wasn't partial to it growing up. I HATED when people would say,

"OH... Lourdes... Like Madonna's daughter".

No B*tch... I was born first!

Now...

I love my name. I have not found too many people with the same name and I think it's just...me!

7) If you had to pick only one song to listen to for the rest of your life, which song would it be?

A run-on song (like run on sentence) containing all of the Beatles songs!

8) It's Friday night... Would you rather have a quiet night in or a wild evening out?

Quiet night in.  How about a bubble bath with wine and a great book. Ten times better than a bunch of drunk people acting stupid! You know?

9) Where would you rather vacation: Alaska or Hawaii? Why?

Hawaii. Who can turn down the beach? It's just gorgeous! To do: Book a trip to Hawaii!

10) What is your most favorite book?

I have posted about my favorite book a couple (1 2)of times on the blog.

Rebecca by Daphne Du Maurier

The book is just engrossing. Read it and then watch the movie. I promise that you will love it!

That was fun!
Now... I would LOVE to nominate everyone, but I have a few blogs that I wanted to share. SO I am going to nominate them!

Everyday is a New Adventure
His Little Lady
Rolled Up Pretty
DecoyBetty
Entirely My Own
This Radiant Life
Tragic and Lovely
Typical Kim
Why Girls Are Weird

There you have it. Ten blogs that I look forward to reading everyday!
There are more... But these ladies have become friends to me in the last few months!

Now for my questions...

1. Have you traveled out of the country? If you have, where?
2. How many siblings do you have and are you all close?
3. BSB or N*Sync? Why?
4. What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
5. Would you rather a glass of beer or a glass of wine? Why?
6. What is your favorite aspect about your job?
7. Name your Alma Mater (High school/ college/ university). Are you a [insert mascot name here] fan?
8. You have won $1,000,000. What would you buy?
9. Who is your best friend? Why does she deserve the title of "best friend"?
10. What is your favorite book-turned- movie? What makes it your favorite?

Have fun ya'll!

A reading update

I have made progress on my new years resolution. I didn't realize that I was so close to my goal and I am extremely proud! ESPECIALLY since I have gone through major "reading-laziness" throughout the last few months.

This year, I am having a problem with quality over quantity. I want to make sure that I am reading books because I am having fun rather than reading them to meet my goal. You see, last year my goal was to read one book per month. I ended last year with 24 books. I was so proud of myself and used my ending count to create my goal for this year. My priority for this year was to:

*read the classics (especially those that I am ashamed to say I had never read before)

*reread some of my favorite classics

*not force myself to read just to make my goal.

So far, I have been on a roll. I have chosen books that I generally liked. If I did not like the books, I took my time with them and did not force myself to read when I was just not feeling it.

The last book I posted about was A Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. Since then, I have added four more books to my list. Since I am not really good at "reviewing" books, I will keep this short and sweet.

Persuasion by Jane Austen

Another Jane Austen book that I loved. It will never compare to Pride and Prejudice, but I was surprised at how engrossing this book was. Anne Elliot just as lovable as Elizabeth Bennet and she really did dig a place into my heart. I found myself hurting when she was hurting and wearing a cheesy smile when she was happy. Read this book if you love Jane Austen! It will not disappoint.

Ever After- Elswyth Thane

I found this book at a thrift store for $.50. I bought it because it was cheap and it was an early 1900's printing of the book. SO, I had no idea what to expect when I started reading this book. So, you can imagine my surprise when I was slammed with two or three love stories. This is another book that has characters to fall in love with. I was engrossed and had a hard time putting this book down. I actually finished it in 2 days. Check this book out! You won't be disappointed.

Sense and Sensibility- Jane Austen

I want to start by saying, "I LOVE Jane Austen". BUT... I did not LOVE this book. I read this book when I was younger and I totally forgot the agony I felt while reading it then. I was so excited to reread this book. AND I was doubly excited when I finished this book. The characters did not wow me. They actually annoyed me. I just could not stand the characters for some reason. I don't want to deter you from this book, but I had to tell you my true opinions of the book!

The Case Book of Sherlock Holmes- Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

Yes. I had never read a Sherlock Holmes book before. That is why I was excited when I completed my Sherlock Holmes collection. I have been looking for all of the books at thrift stores and decided to read them ONLY when I had collected all of the books. I had no idea what to expect but I was impressed. The collection consists of short stories detailing the case of Sherlock Holmes and his companion Doctor Watson. This is definitely a fun and easy read! Now I just have to continue with the collection.

SO, my list has grown. I have three more books on my currently reading list.
The Phantom Tollbooth by Norton Juster (Colon found out I had never read or heard about this book and insisted that I read this!)
The Lost World by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle (Why not continue with the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle kick?)
A Tale of Two Cities- Charles Dickens (This book is long and I am not excited to start it. What do ya'll think about this book?)

A short check in...

Colon and I are currently off to a wedding in the NYC!

Oh Yeah!

I thought I would leave you with a few fun things that I have seen here on the interwebs and on TV. You know... because I am such a lazy butt!

-----
How awkward was this?

I lost respect for Robin Thicke after this... Did anyone else?

Now from AWKWARD to AWESOME...

How much I love them! ...and the songs brought back so many memories!

PostSecret will never get old. I cannot get enough of it! I need to send something in.

Colon spends his time at work sending me the weirdest and funniest things. Here are some examples: 1. How desperate   2. I wish I was coordinated   3. Reminds me of Norty!

I was mentioned in this post by a lovely blogger and I need to respond! It will happen soon!

Why soon and not now? Colon and I are currently on our way to NYC to attend a wedding!

SO. Much. Fun!

Sushi and ice cream make the scary go away!

Wooo... yesterday's post was quite long! I didn't realize that one trip to the record store could result in such a long post!

SO, I am sitting here... writing this post while listening to Abbey Road. Aren't The Beatles amazing?

This album helped me out this weekend!

You see, this happened Friday night. :::scumbags!::: I didn't figure everything out until Saturday after Colon left for Vegas with a couple of friends. While I was freaking out and writing the post, Victor, a friend of mine messaged me. It was nice because he came over and spent time with me. I got to catch up with him and find out about the happenings in his life lately. It was nice!

I needed to get out of the house, so Victor took me to Culver's.

Via
Oh my... the sundae was yummy. The base was butterfinger pecan with butterscotch and almonds added. I could NOT stop eating!

Victor was looking for a particular item for his house, so he invited me to help him. We stopped by several stores and did not find anything.

I ended the night with a nice book!

The next day, Victor invited me to get sushi at Hon Machi. SO GOOD! I had not had sushi since I was in Florida, so I was in heaven! I had two rolls and a plate of dumplings. I freaking pigged out!

Via

Try this place out, if you are in the area!

Again, I ended the night (and weekend) with a nice book! (which I have to update you all on my reading list! I have a couple of books to add!)

Via
Have an awesome night everyone!

LOVE!

Because...

I'm back and feeling ten times better. This ordeal really was... scary (for lack of a better word). It took me a while to get comfortable with being alone in the house. I still find myself checking the doors and making sure they are locked.

Anyways... thanks to those that messaged, responded, texted, and spent time with me! Ya'll made me feel better!

So yeah... other than that ordeal, this past week or two was... stressful. I keep saying it. It's true. Work has been crazy. Fast-paced. Expectations are high and I find myself worrying about meeting those expectations. If you know me personally, then you know that I WORRY about everything. I lose sleep. I lose weight QUICKLY. It takes a toll.

The weekends have been NEEDED! Last Sunday (August 18), Colon and I ended up going to a record shop. Upon walking in, I was overwhelmed. There was just SOOOO much to look at. Movies. CD's. Comics. Records. SO much!

Colon and I stumbled upon a couple of record players. I have been wanting one for a while and this one was affordable.

Via

So, COlon and I decided to look around the store before we made our decision. I came upon the Abbey Road album and I was itching for that record player. I needed wanted it so badly.

I kept looking around the store and found Archie comics for $.99. So, I knew I was leaving the store with something!

Via
Yup. I left with all those Archie comics.

...and I kept looking around. That was when I found the Doctor Who stand. I HAD to get something. So, I left with this Tardis toy!

Via
It is awesome. Do you want to know how Colon and I decided to get the record player?

PAPER. ROCK. SCISSORS!

We actually stood in the middle of the store and played the game.

So, I won. We got it and I left with this album!

AMAZING!

Via

...and this is now standing on my desk!

Via

This post is quite long! So I am going for now! Expect more of a life update manana!

Stay sweet everyone! I hope your week has been amazing!

Scared

I am feeling so...
violated.
vulnerable.

SO...raw.

SCARED.

Colon had a boys night last night which lasted way past sunup. I decided to stay home since I was feeling unwell. I was alone.

A few minutes ago I decided to go out and do a little shopping That was when I realized that my car had been combed through and certain things were missing from our garage.

You see. For the past week, our garage door mechanism has been acting up. Opening by itself. Not responding to the remote we have in our cars. Well, last night it seems to have opened on it's own. I am assuming that the lowlife decided to use that as an excuse to help hims/herself to our belongings in the garage.

Colon said that the garage door was open when he got home this morning.

The freaking lowlife.

I am amazed.

SCARED.

I feel so weak.

Someone that I DO NOT KNOW came in to my space in the middle of the night without my knowing.

They didn't take anything important. Just COlon's new snowboard, out new tool set, a box of school notes, some of our Christmas decor... but still... It was my stuff.

The door that leads from the garage to the main house was unlocked. We usually just leave it unlocked. This person could have taken much more. They could have hurt me. I was alone.

Now I have to reassess this imagined security that I always seemed to have.

I am scared.

I don't want to go shopping anymore.

Woosah

The last two weeks have been crazy stressful.

My personal life has been crazy. My work life has been busy.

Things are finally starting to settle down.

I hope.

We had a management change in our office last week. We knew it was coming but we were trying not to talk about it. We love our manager and it was so hard to see her go.

But we had to let her go.

We all got together last Tuesday for a nice dinner at Arriba Mexican Grill to bid her farewell. We talked. We cried. We had fun. We let her go.

The rest of the week was spent compensating for her leave. Everyone was running around. It was crazy.

------------------------------

Things started to get better as the weekend rolled in.

Pictures from the past week... posted on Instagram!

1. I have had these shoes for 4 years. Saturday night was the second time I wore them.

2. Colon and I went out on Saturday night. We "pre-gamed" at one of his friends apartments and whoa...
this apartment was amazing. There was a set of stairs that led to the roof. This is the view of the pool from the roof.

3. Colon and I sat on the roof talking to people for a while. I also tried to get a "selfie" of us. He was not digging the flash! We ended the night by going to American Junkie. Not that great but at least we went with awesome people.

4. Look what I found in Colon's room. It was my balloon that I got from work a few weeks ago. It's still alive!

5. Last night Colon and I went to BJ's Brewhouse with some of Colon's friends. We had new people start at work a few weeks ago and one of those people irritates the hell out of me. This glass of BJ's Brewhouse Blonde was much needed! We then went and saw Elysium with the group. The movie isn't horrible, I just was not a fan.

6. I came across this cactus while we were walking to the bars on Saturday night. Cute, right?

7,8,9. I have been running jogging walking lately. Today during my walk, I came across a park in my neighborhood. Yay for fun!
PS... I got this new Nike+ Running app and it is awesome! You should try it!

------------------

I told you this past week was crazy!

But there's more! Colon was able to get free tickets to a Diamondbacks game on Sunday. So, that is how we spent our Sunday. We went to Alice Cooperstown before we attended the game since it was so close to the stadium. I didn't post any Instagram pictures of our food or the game BUT I brought my DSLR so I have a few pics from the game!

I am actually impressed with my new lens! The pictures look as if we were right there by the field when in fact we were high up.

Whooo... I feel like I have been rambling!

Sorry the post is so long!

I hope everyone has had an amazing week so far!

XO

a weekend visitor...

What a weekend.

It was crazy and hectic.

But I loved it.

The craziness started on Friday. I knew Friday was going to be crazy busy, so I prepared the house on Thursday night. With the house clean and put together, I didn't have much to do on Friday after work. My friend was coming in from California an hour before midnight and I had to make sure that I stayed up. So I rearranged things and tried to make sure everything was perfect for her arrival.

I was so nervous about her coming. We met twice before. We got along amazingly. I was just worried and nervous because our personalities are night and day. We are complete opposites... and that made me nervous.

I don't know why I was so worried. We got along amazingly. We talked for a couple of hours once we got home. The only reason we broke up the chat fest was my having to work on Saturday morning. A short early shift. So, it was 2 am and I was on my way to falling asleep. At 3 am my friend REALLY needed someone to talk to, so she joined me in bed. We had another chat fest for a few hours.

Saturday
*I was not able to fall asleep for the rest of the night. Work was miserable. I was EXHAUSTED.

*We went shopping (for a baby shower gift and some make-up) and made our way to a baby shower.

*I SUCK at the baby shower games. I instinctively cross my legs (which means I lose my mini-clothes pins) and I have a horrible time remembering that I cannot say "baby" (so I, again, lose my mini-clothes pins). It's horrible. I am just not made for these baby shower games.

*We (my friend, Rama, and I) went to The Living Room and had many...
       ....many
                  ....many
                             ....many
...many glasses of wine and cocktails.

Sunday
*I woke at 11. It felt great to sleep in. It was just awkward that my guest woke up 2 hours before I did. I always make it a point to wake up before my guest. It's rude to have them wake up and before you and "fend" for themselves!

*We met up with Rama for lunch at Grimaldi's. Yummy pizza.

*I dropped my friend off at the airport. SO sad!

*Colon came home. It was emotional. I missed him a lot.

He brought back a turtle figurine from Puerto Rico. He knows the way to my heart!

This weekend was great. Needless to say, I was able to get a good nights sleep last night. FINALLY!!!!

I am flattered but...

There I was. Helping a customer at work. We concluded the meeting and he left.

An hour later, he is back in my office.

I greeted him with ,

"Hi...your back!..."

and he replied,

"Yeah, I came back to get your number".

This conversation ended with me NOT handing my number over and telling him that I was flattered. I was shocked. Is it normal for people to do that in a business/ professional setting?

I am not used to guys doing that... How am I supposed to react?

Has something like this ever happened to you? How did you react?

PS... Happy Friday! Enjoy the weekend!

Sleep... where are you?

It's Wednesday Thursday ya'll.

Can you believe it?

Almost Friday!

This week has been a roller coaster. I wasn't too busy at the beginning of the week, but then Wednesday hit with hurricane force.

After work on Tuesday, Colon and I started to prepare his suitcase. Yup. He was going on a trip. A trip to Puerto Rico for his friend's bachelor party. I was just a little bit sad to know he was leaving. It was hard for me to fall asleep.

So, I woke up EXTREMELY tired on Wednesday. I knew I would have to drive him to the airport after work and, again, I was just a little bit sad. So, after work we finished up the packing, took showers, and headed out to dinner. We went to Grimaldi's and had such a lovely time. I dropped him off at the airport and...

I didn't cry. Nothing. Just kissed him goodbye.

I didn't miss him until I got home.

...and I miss him.

I didn't sleep well last night. Second night in a row.

I could not stop thinking about him. Knowing he would be flying all night. I always get nightmares when I know that the people I love are flying. I love to fly but you never know what will happen. I was also thinking about everything I had to do to get the house ready for a friend to come in town.

Said friend is the fiance of Colon's "Puerto Rico" bachelor friend. I met her through Colon on this trip. I mention how nervous I was here.  We became friends and I always looked forward to seeing here, especially on this trip to New York City (their home town) and this trip to Vegas. Well, a couple of month's ago, she let me know she was going to be in town for a baby shower and asked if she could stay with. Of course, I would never say no.

So, she will be coming this weekend. Tomorrow night, actually. That is why I have been spending the last couple of hours cleaning my house. Right after work, I went shopping. Not for clothes. Not for makeup. No. I had to FINALLY buy bed sheets and a bed comforter for the guest room bed.

I am finally at ease. Now that the house is clean. The bed is dressed.

I think I will fall asleep really easily tonight.

                                           Love you all!

                                                                 XO
