Oh special day...

Today is a very special day.

It's my dad's birthday.

Happy Birthday, Dad!
I love you!

He's currently working his ass off in the Middle East. Spending his birthday out there without his family. The things he does for family. Truly selfless! He's on my mind today. This special day.

I am also spending the day reminiscing about the drive Colon and I took on Sunday.
Beautiful!

It's Friday people.
Party hard!
Especially you, DAD!

17 of 24 down...

I have been obsessed with reading lately. I go through phases where I cannot get enough of reading.
I'm in one of those phases right now.
Goodreads has been my best friend.

My reading frenzy has led to my being able to add two more books to my 24 Books in 2013 challenge.
Let's add some more books to this little list of mine.

While I was thrift shopping a week or two ago, I came across this "culture guide". It was titled,
Culture Smart! Philippines: A Quick Guide to Customs and Etiquette by Graham Collin-Jones. I saw the title and decided to buy it. You see, it piqued my interest because my mother is Filipina. This book is pretty cheesy. BUT it does manage to pinpoint Filipino mannerisms and trends. It attributes these to Filipino beliefs and it helped me to see my mother and her family in a different light. Again, this book is pretty cheesy BUT I definitely would recommend it to those that are interested in why Filipinos do things a certain way.

On Monday, I finished reading The Handmaid's Tale by Margaret Atwood. I read this book in high school and fell in love with this author. Have you ever read a book, loved it, and forgot much of the story after a few years? Well, that is what happened to me. That is why I decided to take this book of my bookshelf and re-read it. This book is a dystopian novel. It will throw you through loops and is a book that requires a lot of focus. There are so many literary devices (whether it be motifs, themes, lack of punctuation, or juxtaposition) that will further the meaning of an otherwise meaningless situation.
Read this book. That is an order!

Again...

I find myself spewing the
"I can't believe I have not posted in such a long time"
crap.

I don't have any excuses today. I promise I will not do that.

*Lately, I have started people watching. I bought a tiny notebook to keep with me at all times. I have been trying to find the perfect spot, like coffee shops. Parks. Malls.
I basically just sit there drinking coffee and jotting down notes into my tiny little notebook.

People watching is the perfect time to think about life. To view other peoples actions and try to make sense of this crazy world.

* The sky has had me in a trance lately. This Arizona sky is amazing. No matter how good or bad my day has been, looking at the sky always has a way to make my day better. I always thought that the Arizona sky would be void of clouds. But, lately, it has shown itself as multifaceted. The clouds that have made presence have been big and fluffy.
Almost unreal.
The way that the sun sets itself behind the clouds...
Just gorgeous.
It kind of makes me realize how good God is.
How amazing!

Rainy days in AZ. Perfect clouds

* A couple of weeks ago, I experienced my first dust storm. I was shocked and scared. I had no idea what was happening. After experiencing it, I realized how cool it is (as long as you are protected inside).
Especially since rain comes in its wake.
This weekend, Colon and I planned to see a movie. On our way out of our complex, I saw a dust storm on its way. We decided to backtrack and go back home so that I could take pictures and fulfill my fascination with videos, etc.
It was awesome. At first, I could see the dust in the distance. It was still light outside. The contrast from one side of the sky to the other side was... awe-inspiring.

Watch the video on Instagram (@lechagar)
The cloud of dust started getting closer. It almost looked like one of those really bad Florida thunderstorm. The sky became extremely dark, lightning could be seen in the clouds, and the winds started to pick up.

All of a sudden, the sky became red. Just gorgeous.

Dust storms are just... amazing!

*  Colon and I saw Despicable Me 2 this weekend.
I loved this movie. We went with another couple and it was funny because we were 4 childless adults in a sea full of parents and kids.
It was awesome.
A must-see!

* We also took a road-day-trip. We didn't have a particular destination. We just drove.
It started off as a rainy day. And slowly turned into a clear day. Such a relaxing drive.

I just realized that this post is pretty long. AND is mostly about the weather.
What can I say?
I love the rain and the sky. So peaceful.

What did you all do this weekend?

A relaxing weekend in...

What is wrong with me these days?

I have just been too lazy to post. Work has been leaving me exhausted and I have no desire to do anything but relax after work.

Life really has not been hectic. SO, I really do not have an excuse for not posting lately. Work has been busy and I have just been exhausted when I finally make it home. Colon and I have been in a lazy/do nothing/relax around the house craze. We spent the weekend together. He watched EVO all weekend and I did all of my favorite things.

Colon and I took a trip to Hobby Lobby this weekend. He was looking for items to mod his fight stick. I was looking for anything that I could use for arts and crafts (as per the usual). While we were there, I stumbles across some ruffly yarn. I had never used it before and decided that I would try. So, I bought it and came up with this...

Via
Colon's obsession with EVO continued on Sunday. So, I decided to spend the day thrift shopping.
I didn't buy any clothes. I just made out with a ton of books. I consider it a successful haul. ESPECIALLY since I can use these books in my 24 Books in 2013 resolution

My day was made when it started raining Monday night.

Yup.

You read that correctly.

It rained on Monday. In Arizona. I had no idea it rained here! It was amazing. I was in bed reading my current book, when I started to hear something on the roof. I then realized that it was raining. HARD! I was so happy that I ran outside and got a video

The sky here in Arizona is amazing. Florida has some competition. The Arizona sky is just gorgeous. I am falling in love with this state!

I also am proud to say that I can add 2 more books to my 24 Books in 2013 resolution list. I am horrible at "reviewing" books, so I am going to make this short and sweet!

Maid to Match by Deanne Gist.
It was a great book. For a synopsis, go here. I was not expecting anything great when I started this book. I was surprised. The characters were likeable and the story kept me coming for more. This is a love story but not one of those border-line pornographic ones. I like how Deanne Gist gives a deeper meaning throughout the story and ties God into Tillie and Macks relationship. I definitely recommend this book!

The House of the Whispering Pines by Anna Katherine Green.
This is a GREAT READ. It was written in 1910 and it is a murder mystery. Again, I was not expecting this book to keep my interests. Oh, how wrong I was. I could not put this book down. It will keep you guessing and I kept thinking,
"Oh that explains this...BUT who killed her?"
SO yes. Read it if you are into murder mysteries! It won't disappoint!

So.... two more books have been added. I have a few pages left in the current book I am reading. This resolution is going well!

I hope you all are having an amazing week so far! I know I am.

XO

PS... Colon and I had dinner with a friend today. His girlfriend was in town and we thought a double date would be fun. It definitely was and I have not laughed so much in a long time.

PSS... Michael Buble is coming to Phoenix in November. I am BEGGING Colon to buy tickets and go with me! Cross your fingers!

OH YEAH!

Rain...

... I am sitting here
Completely happy.
A few minutes ago
I heard the sound
Of something hitting my roof.

Lo and behold...
The sound of rain.
Pitter patter
Against the roof.
In Arizona.

Amazing.

I have been dreaming of this
for a long time

Thank God.

So comforting.
I feel amazing.

Now to grab my Kindle.

It's almost Friday ya'll!

The last day of the work week is near.
Like 4 more hours near!

This week has been...

I don't feel stressed.
I have made an effort to speak to all of my sisters.
I have cleared up stuff with the AZ DMV.

I finished a book!
I will review/post about it later!

Who wouldn't want Minions in their Instagram pictures?
How interesting is this?
Look who appears as number 2 on this list!
Go Gators!
This blogger (amazing) mentioned the Wayback Machine and I am loving it!
I got this app to stay in touch with my dad while he is out of the States!
Email just wasn't cutting it!

My life has been good lately.

Has yours?

Yet again

... I find myself apologizing for not updating in a few days. Life has been crazy this week.

Today was the first relaxing day in a long time (ok...ok...it's been a week)
Sure, we had Thursday off for July 4th, but that really was not relaxing at all.

Aren't the lights awesome? They are wine bottles!
July 4
You see, this week was crazy busy.
Work had been intense.
Tiring.
I was so excited for July 4th.
It was going to be a break from the crazy week.
Time to ourselves.
Like I said before, it really wasn't.
We went to a pool party.
Sun all day + drinking + socializing = exhausted Lourdes.

You can see me in the picture :)
July 4

Work then consumed my days until 4pm yesterday.
I got home from work and did some housework.
I bought Norton a treat and cleaned his tank!
We then spent the night with friends.
Pool hall.
Canteen.
Waffle house.
Fun night.
Again, exhausting.

Today started off with a bang though.
We woke at 12pm.
We ate at Hungry Monks.
We are now relaxing.
Thank God.

On another note...

There are some exciting things from this week.

Colon finally upgraded his phone.
He got the Samsung Galaxy S4.
It's awesome.
This allowed me to use his old phone (the S2)
My older phone was really outdated.

Instagram video is awesome!
I've been watching videos and loving them.

This video. LOVE Bob's Burgers.

Henry Cavill. Lusted over him for years. Loved him from the Tudors. He is just beautiful.

It's interesting to see other roles that the Game of Thrones actors have played.

I should make this for Norty!

This video is awesome. I hate spiders but amazing!

Happy weekend!

So dusty

One of the best things to end my day with is a phone call from my brother.
First a rare call from my mom.

Then a not-so-rare call from the siblings. It feels good to hear the excitement in their voice when I talk to them. It is just great.

Now I just meed to catch my dad.he is back in the States and is on a weird sleep schedule.

Stupid jet lag.

Why must you be so difficult?

Oh... and dust storm warnings suck, too!
