To be one's self...

"To be one's self, and unafraid whether right or wrong is more admirable than the easy cowardice of surrender to conformity"
~Irving Wallace

Do you really want to be just like everyone else around you? I would hope not. If you have been reading my blog, you know that I am working on accepting and loving myself and ignoring the bad things that others may think or say about me. but it is not only about accepting one's self. We all know how easy it is to follow the crowd and do whatever everyone else is doing. But is that necessarily right? I don't believe so.
I mean...
What if everyone jumped off of a cliff? Would you also jump?
What if everyone killed someone? Would you kill someone?

This reiterates that you should be yourself, ESPECIALLY in situations where you don't agree with the masses.

Be insert name here and not the person in insert group name here group.

A woman is like a teabag... (100th entry)

"A woman is like a teabag. You never know how strong she is until she is in hot water."
~Eleanor Roosevelt

Don't mess with me and don't underestimate me.

:)

In all seriousness, women are strong and tough. Never underestimate them because they will definitely prove you wrong.

Proud to be a tough woman,

365 Days of Happiness: November 22-November 28

Oh, Poor Turkeys! I imagine that they've had such a rough week because of Thanksgiving. BUT, let's not think of that (because I do not want to feel guilty for stuffing myself full of Turkey on Thanksgiving). Let's jump into the happy list!

Monday November 22
Pride and Prejudice

I have read this book thousands of times every time I read it I pick up on different elements of the story. After reading it so many times, I decided that it was necessary to read it again to write down quotes and ideas that I thought were interesting. You would not believe the number of quotes that I wrote down. Each quote signifies the view that society had of women and their roles. They also show how much times have changed since then.
 Honestly, I think this book should be read by everybody. Not, only does it have views and ideas that everybody should become familiar with, but it has a love story. It portrays the love between different couples and how two people who are so stubborn can be compatible with each other.

A must read! I promise!

Tuesday November 23
Babu's B-day

It's my boyfriends birthday today and he is 23 years old. I couldn't spend this day with him, BUT i know he had an amazing day. It's so close to Thanksgiving and I am in a "Thanks-Grateful" mood. So, I am so grateful for my amazing boyfriend and thankful that he has had 23 amazing years on this Earth.

Wednesday November 24
Snickers
I have always liked Snickers bars. They are so yummy. I mean, how could anyone resist the combination of peanuts, caramel, and chocolate. YUMMY!!!

I especially like the Snickers Almonds!

Thursday November 25
Thanksgiving Day
Turkey

Mmmhmmm... I usually do not like turkey but Thanksgiving day turkey is the best. So yummy. I guess turkey is one of the reasons why I love Thanksgiving so much. I love Thanksgiving because of the gathering of family of friends around an amazing feast that takes all day to prepare. It allows you to bond with family and stuff your face all in one day! I love it.

Friday November 26
Pictures of Space

I have always been fascinated with space. So much so that I wanted to be an astronaut when I was younger. The pictures are amazing and they make me feel a sense of wonder. I can look at these pictures for hours and never get bored. If you don't believe me, look at my tumblr account (http://lechagar.tumblr.com/
 and you will see what I mean.

Saturday November 27
Legos

I chose this picture because I know my boyfriend would appreciate it. But the focus of today's entry is Legos. I used to LOVE playing with Legos and I think that I still have not lost that love for Legos. The other day I was tempted to get a Star Wars Lego set and assemble it for my boyfriend. It's like a jigsaw puzzle.

Sunday November 28
Tamagotchi

 You can say what you want. You can laugh and make fun, but I love my Tamagotchi. I bought it like ten years ago (maybe even longer) and just found it amidst my junk. I guess this is my way of filling the void of a puppy that I want!

So that is the end of this update. Hope you enjoyed!

"We must not allow the clock and the calendar to blind us to the fact that each moment of life is a miracle and mystery"
H.G. Wells

Now that the holidays are fast approaching, I definitely have to keep this quote in mind. I find myself rushing through all of the work I have to get done before school ends. I constantly let that consume me and forget that there is so much more to a single day than work and school.

I have my exams in exactly a week and I intend to study. BUT, I will not let them consume me. I will indicate time for studying and schoolwork while at the same time provide time for fun and enjoyment.

I'm grateful for my family, friends,...

and LIFE!!

~ Laura

It's November 27 and today is a special day. Why is it a special day? Well, today is the birthday of one of my amazing friends. So, I am going to take this time to say

To this friend, you should know who you are, I am so grateful for everything you have done for me. So, I hope this day is amazing for you and that there will be many more to come!

Again,
Happy Birthday

With love,
Lourdes

P.S. If you are reading this and don't know if this is dedicated to you. Then see if you understand the following:

I am from the place where Ecuador, the Philippines, Cuba, France, and Russia meet. :)

If you understood and remember when we talked about this then you are the one :)

As soon as I read this quote I thought of my boyfriend. I thought of him because he was the first person that made me realize that songs and music can evoke memories of people and moments in my life.

 How did he do this, you ask? Well, when we first started dating I noticed that he would always change the radio station to a classic rock station. Then he went on his internship for six months. Whenever I would listen to a song playing on that radio station, I would be reminded of him. I would remember conversations that we had and laughs that we had. The music was always playing in the background.

So, yes. I agree with this quote. Music can help to jog your memory and help you recall happy moments. Music is constant!

So, I leave you with this quote. Now whenever you hear this song, you will remember the day that you read this entry :)

"From small beginnings come great things"
~American Proverb

I think this is appropriate for Thanksgiving. No matter how little you have you must be grateful for it. Remember to be grateful for everything you have in your life!!

Happy Thanksgiving!!

When an opportunity presents itself...

"As fast as each opportunity presents itself, use it! No matter how tiny an opportunity it may be, use it!"
~Robert Collier

This is so important! Do not let an opportunity slip from your hands because some time in the future you will definitely regret it. So avoid the regret.

I have forgotten how it is to be a kid. How innocent a child is and the explanations that children come up with to explain things. I'm 22 years old and whenever I see my brother (10 years old) and my youngest sister (4 years old) I am always amused at the stories they come up with to explain life phenomenons.

I ended up stumbling upon something while using "StumbleUpon". I am posting some of teh pictures, but if you want to see the site you could just look here at

Hope you enjoyed!!!!

Change the world...Change yourself

"I wanted to change the world. But I have found that the only thing one can be sure of changing is oneself"
~~~Aldous Huxley
Whenever someone asks me about my future plans and future goals, my mind always seems to draw a blank. I am not certain what they are. The one thing I know is that I want to change the world. i want to invent something that impacts every ones lives; something that will advance our civilization. I just do not know what it is that I am going to do to obtain this result. This haunted my thoughts every day until I read this quote by Aldous Huxley. This quote has inspired me to stop being so consumed with changing the world. This shouldn't be what I am worried about. I should start with the basics. I should work on myself and mold myself into the person I want to be. I don't necessarily have to give up my goal; I can still keep "changing the world" in mind, but I need to make sure that I keep myself grounded and keep my priorities in check!
365 Days of Happiness: November 15- November 21
I was browsing through the pictures on my computer and stumbled upon this photo. I took this picture during my freshman year. Everyday, I walked past this tree and always noticed how beautiful it was. Then one day I had my camera. This is the result of it!
I'm finished with my random mini story and am now going to update my list of happiness!!! I'm not feeling extremely verbal today, so sorry if the descriptions are terse and short. But, here we go!!
Monday November 15
Hot chocolate
Oh, this cup of hot chocolate looks amazing! I went to Volta to have coffee with a friend and when I looked at the menu the words "Volta hot Chocolate" caught my attention. I had never had hot chocolate, and had heard so many great things about the Volta hot chocolate. So, I decided that I would try it. It was the best decision I've ever made!!!
Tuesday November 16
Hard-boiled eggs
Steamers
I have always liked hard-boiled eggs. I honestly cannot tell you why. I just do.
Today the math grad students decided to have lunch at Steamers. They make the best fried rice, AND the portions are huge. You definitely get the best value for your buck!!! So, if you have not tried it already, what are you waiting for?
Wednesday November 17
Desperate Housewives
This show is another thing on the list that I just love. And I have no idea why.
Thursday November 18
Cheese
Cheese. Yummy. There are so many different kinds and they are all so tasty. Every time I go to the grocery store, I buy a huge chunk of cheese. I actually slice the cheese and eat a thousand slices a day!! OK, I am exaggerating but I honestly love cheese and can never get enough of it!
Friday November 19
Harry Potter opening night
 I was so worried that I wouldn't be able to see this movie because it seemed as if my friends did not like Harry Potter. Thank God my friend asked me to be her date. I got to see the movie on opening night at 12 am! So exciting. We got to the movie theaters 2 hours early and hung out. It was awesome seeing all of the fans there!
Saturday November 20
Craisins
It's quite weird that I like Craisins, because I do not like cranberries. But, there is something about Craisins that keep me coming for more. I can honestly finish a bag of Craisins in one sitting.
Sunday November 21
Butterscotch
I have always known that I love butterscotch candies, but the extent of my love hit me when I was eating a butterscotch lollipop at work. They are so sweet and yummy.
Good night!
Smile big for me
" A smile costs you nothing but the returns are huge"
~All-Smile Philosopher
Sent via BlackBerry by AT&T
I was on campus with a couple of friends the other day when a man walked up and spoke with us. I do not quite remember what the conversation was about, but I ended up receiving the "I LOVE YOUR SMILE" sticker that you see in the picture. The sticker slipped my mind and remained in my book bag for a few days, until I saw this quote. I placed that sticker on the front of my notebook and that is where the sticker will stay.
That sticker will remind me of the feelings a simple smile evokes in me. I always smile at people and love it when they return the smile. It portrays kindness. A simple smiles creates a friendship of some sort. it's just amazing.
So, try to smile more often. You brighten up your face and may be surprised by the results!
"All that happens means something; nothing you do is ever insignificant."
~Aldous Huxley
Look at this picture of Earth. It is so big, and there are millions of lifeforms inhabiting it. Of course actions and happenings will be significant. Even if something does not affect you, It will definitely affect something out there!!
Keep that in mind!
"Hope is the dream of a waking man"
-Aristotle
Such a lovely quote which can be interpreted in many ways. When I first stumbled upon this quote, I was slightly confused. But then it dawned on me that a dream is just a dream. Dreams are a manifestation of your fears, your longings, and your feelings. Yet, they are present only in your sleep and are often forgotten once you wake. Hope, is what is present when you are awake. You hope for things; you long for things.
But, hope can be like a dream if you let it. In order to turn hope into a reality, go out and make things happen. Do everything in your power to be successful. If you do not, you are just allowing your hopes to be exactly like your dreams. Just thoughts in your head. Not reality.
So go out there and achieve. You will not be sorry! If you don't trust me, trust Aristotle.
Truly Yours
Quotes and sayings challenge
I have a notebook where I write down quotes and other things. This notebook never leaves my side. I take it everywhere with me. I want to incorporate this challenge into my blog. Maybe it will inspire those that read my blog.
So, for now, I challenge myself to post a quote on my blog for two months, 60 days. I will start tomorrow and post everyday.
These quotes can be serious, inspiring, funny, jokes, anything. I just want others to see and hear the sayings/ quotes that I found interesting and worthy to write down.
I honestly think that the notebook helps with this challenge. You never know when you are going to hear/ read something amazing. And you do not realize how easy it is to forget the things you hear, no matter how inspiring they are.
My color profile
Lately, I have been addicted to "StumbleUpon". During one of my "StumbleUpon" feats, I came across this site where I can determine aspects of my personality based on the colors that i assign to certain objects. I found that the different explanations were quite contradictory, but I still found them interesting. So, I am going to post them and see what you think.
The first object that I had to assign color to was a house. I assigned the color red to it and this is the response that I got.
Red house
"You have a strong personality that likes to take risks if the rewards are worth it.  You don't like being told what to do and prefer to take matters into your own hands."
I then had to assign a color to a shirt. I assigned the color blue and this was the personality description that I got.
Blue shirt
"Preferring a more casual appearance, you are more comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt than in a suit.  You don't like over dressing for any occasion, although you never look scruffy."
I think that description was perfect. I definitely am more comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt. how can someone not be?
I then chose to assign the color red to a rose.
Red rose
"You are aggressive in business, but tend to take the backseat when it comes to your personal life.  You are more comfortable talking about work than relationships."
I absolutely love red roses and definitely cannot resist them. BUT, I feel like the description is not so accurate. I am definitely not an aggressive person, especially not in business.
Next, I assigned the colors silver and grey to a car.
Silver/grey car
"You value highly what is important to you.  Some people may find your possessions a little out of fashion, but you don't mind as they appeal to your taste."
I definitely value the things that I have and the  people that are in my life. They are important to me. My possessions aren't always the most up to date but who cares. As long as I like them they are fine.
For example, my phone. I never have the most up to date phone. Speaking of phones, I also assigned the color black to a phone.
Black phone
"Business often takes priority to social occasions. You are aggressive in business, but tend to take the backseat when it comes to your personal life."
I have no idea why I choose colors that indicate that I am aggressive. I definitely am not. I'm quite confused!
The last and final thing I had to assign was a teddy bear. How could I choose any other color than brown. Look at how cute brown teddy bears are.
Brown teddy
"You are a no-nonsense, practical person.  You make sure that you are there when your friends need you, and like to solve their problems for them."
HA! I definitely am practical and I definitely try to be there as much as I can for the people I love. i want to make sure my friends and family are OK. I want to take away their hurt and take away their problems.
I hope you enjoyed my color profile!!
I'm coming out of the cupboard
Accio!
Obliviate!
Alohomora!
Wingardium Leviosa!
Do you recognize these words and where they are from? How about:
Expecto patronum!!
If you don't then you should be ashamed. How could you not recognize these spells from Harry Potter?
OK, I get it. Not everyone out there enjoys, let alone can stand, the Harry Potter books and movies. When the books first came out, I was one of those skeptics. I actually thought that if I read the Harry Potter books I would be considered nerdy and that those in school would make fun of me. Heck, I made m fun of my sister for reading them.
I did not read the books until the 4th one came out. I remember the day that I got sucked into the Harry Potter craze. My mother, sisters and I had taken a trip to visit my cousin in South Carolina. My sisters were in the living room playing video games with my cousin's son and all of the adults were talking and reminiscing in the kitchen. My cousin saw that I was bored and showed me into the room that she liked to call her "mini library". She then asked me if I had already read the Harry Potter books. When I let on that I had not, she told me to at least read the first one before I cast it off. So, I did. I found a blanket and a comfy spot in the room and started reading. I was so absorbed in the book and ended up finishing it in 3 hours. I immediately started the second book. When I finished the second one, I picked up the third one and kept reading. As I was reading the books, I was swept into the stories. It was as if the emotions of Harry, Ron, and Hermione were my own. I started feeling connected to each and every character (except for Lord Voldemort and his followers, of course).
I ended up buying all of the books for myself. I pre-ordered the rest of the books and was there to pick them up on opening night. I am obsessed and the making and release of the first six Harry Potter movies has fed my obsession. So, here I am today awaiting the first part of Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows
Those that are close to me know that I am obsessed with Harry Potter. But, I do not publicize my obsession. I can honestly say that I do not own an article of clothing with the Harry Potter logo, or anything that has to do with Harry Potter. Many of the people I met in school this year had no idea that I wanted to see the movie. I was so excited and so worried that I would not find someone to go with me. I was actually going to wait until my boyfriend came back to drag him to see the movie. But, then a miracle happened. My friend asked me on a Harry Potter date and now I am going to see the movie at the midnight premiere. SO EXCITED!
So, Now I have officially come out of the cupboard! I am obsessed with Harry Potter and I do not care who knows or what you think of it!!!
Hope you enjoyed the pictures of some of my favorite characters and I hope I inspired you to come out of the cupboard! Believe me, there is nothing to be ashamed of!
I leave with this:
Lumos!!!!
365 Days of Happiness: November 8- November 14
Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart. How beautiful Lauren Bacall is. How smooth Humphrey Bogart is.  Throughout the week, this couple has been the focus of my research, and the relationship between these two actors has enthralled me. But, instead of boring you with the details of my fascination with this couple, I will now continue with my list of happiness!
Monday November 8
Volta
This semester has been full of new experiences.I have had to get used to new people, new obligations, and new school programs. I started to notice that the students in the Mathematics graduate program e started to form groups and that the students all seemed to be getting to know each other. I felt a little left out and tried not to let it bother me. But, there were three people in the program that seemed to have their own click. They were extremely friendly and after talking with them I realized that I could definitely fit in with this group. I wanted to create relationships with each of them; I wanted to get to know them further. Now this is where Volta comes in. The other day, I went to Volta in downtown Gainesville. It's a cute little coffee shop. I went there to meet up with a new friend. The conversation, in combination with the atmosphere, have made me so happy. Volta is cozy and homey. The perfect place to sit down and read with a cup of hot chocolate or to sit and have conversations with friends while drinking a latte. It's just the place for me.
Bones
This is the second thing listed for today. I absolutely love this show. I really cannot relay what it is about the show that I like. Whenever I watch it, I find myself unable to do anything else. So, because of my inability to relay the cause of my fascination with this show, I suggest that you watch it and discover for yourself.
Tuesday November 9
Whiskey: Darryl's Dog
I have to honestly say that I am in love with my friends dog. His name is Whiskey. AKA Whiskers AKA Wiki. He is so friendly. That along with being cute and loving makes him the best dog ever! He is the reason why I want a little puppy. Preferably a Maltese! Yup, now I know what I want for Christmas!
Wednesday November 10
Elephant Love Medley
If you have read previous entries to the list, you know that Moulin Rouge is one of my favorite movies. I love this movie, not only for the story, but for the fact that it is a musical. One of my favorite songs from the movie is "Elephant Love Medley". If you have not heard the song, you should definitely listen to it. I love how Christian seems to win over Satine's heart throughout the song. At the beginning of the song, Satine is denying the love between them. By the end, she acknowledges the feelings and kisses him. AMAZING!
Thursday November 11
Leonardo's Pizza
Hooray for Leonardo's pizza runs. The pizza here is reasonably priced yet still delicious. I have been going to Leonardo's since I was a freshman at UF. But, for some reason I had not been there all semester. Today, was the first time I went and it reminded me of how amazing it is!
Friday November 12
Pomegranate Martinis
My friends and I had "Girl's night" and went to one of my favorite restaurants. Do you remember me mentioning The Top in a previous entry? Well, we went to The Top and had an amazing time. What made it amazing? The pomegranate martinis that my friends and I ordered. They tasted so good. I was extremely impressed with the fusion of the pomegranate flavor (which I love) with the lemon that was also in the drink. You could not even tell that they were alcoholic. All I have to say is that I am in love!
PS... The picture was taken by me. You can also see the house wine that my friend ordered and the crumpled straw paper that I played with throughout the dinner! :)
Saturday November 13
Humphrey Bogart
I was watching Casablanca (for the hundredth time) and realized how much I love Humphrey Bogart.  I don't necessarily consider him handsome, but something about him pulls me in. It might be that he always plays a tough guy that tends to hide his affectionate, noble side. Or, the way that he says "Here's to looking at you kid". Either way. He has stolen a piece of my heart.
Sunday November 14
Lauren Bacall
As I started typing up the entry for Saturday, I realized what my happy thing of the day would be. Seeing Humphrey Bogart's picture and writing about him, made me think of the romance of Bogart and Lauren Bacall. They were so in love and you could see this love in the movies that they starred in together. Just look at the picture at the beginning of the entry. Look at the way he is holding her, and the way that their hands are entwined. The way she is looking at him shows the love.
But wait! This entry is about Lauren Bacall. one of the most beautiful women that I have ever seen. Her eyes are amazing. The way that her hair compliments her features just blows me away. I have spent time looking at pictures of her and it is hard to stop myself from thinking that I wish I looked like her. her pictures and poses have inspired me to take pictures with the same poses. If you have never seen a film starring Ms. Bacall, I suggest you get to work! She is an amazing actress!
*****************
I have now finished up my entries and am now going to sit down to watch To Have and Have Not. An amazing movie starring Bogart and Bacall. If only I had a pomegranate martini...
So long,
Laura
